The New York State Conservation Council, is the States oldest, since 1933, Sportsmen's Advocate Group. Our County Support for this organization is most recognizable through The Oswego County Federation of Sportsmen's Club membership and participation.
Our County Clubs and Sportsmen can and do also participate in different ways.
The BAM, Buck a Member is where sportsmen clubs contribute a dollar a member to the NYSCC each year.
An Associate Membership at $200 and an Affiliate Membership at $75 members are club memberships which offer a degree of participation (i.e. introduction of resolutions), serve on NYSCC Committees, and the rights to attend state meetings.
The Guardian Membership Program offers a Guardian membership at $25 and A Defender membership at $60 a year
The cost of running this state wide organization is more that what is collected in dues. Other revenues are generated through grants and donations to meet the balance of the NYSCC expenditures. As you may know the competition for the available grant money is high. Many grant givers in order to serve the many different causes in need of grants do not give annual grants to the same organizations. This leads to a fluctuation of annual revenue for the different organization, the NYSCC being one of them. seeking the different grants that may be available. There in lies the problem, last year the New York State Conservation Council lost or had a reduction of $23,000 in grant income. The council, was not operating ,has not been operating with a annual surplus so this loss hit us hard.
Solutions
Apply for more grants? This is being done but the well of available grants is running low.
Increase participation in the Buck A Member Program
If within each county there was, above what they are already contributing, an additional $450 annually generated for the NYSCC that would yield $22,500 which would offset the loss of the $23,000 mentioned above.
$450 additional revenue per county could be achieved by six of our sportsmen clubs joining at the $75 level, eight individuals joining at the Defender level of $60, eighteen joining at the Guardian level of $25 or a combination of the above.
Within Oswego County we have several clubs that already participate in the BAM Program, a few Clubs and private individuals that are also members. We do as well or better than allot of counties, but we can do allot better.
We have 17 Sportsmen Clubs with about 2,000 members with in those 17 Clubs.
If ten more clubs joined at the $75 level that would be $750
If ten members in ten different clubs joined at the $25 level that would be $2,500
If five members of ten different clubs joined at $60 level that would be $3,000
If all of the above was accomplished by our county that would yield $6,250
If 50 counties did the above that would be ...........$312,500 which is a whole lot of money.
Please study and learn more about the New York State Conservation Council and see if you don't agree that there is a need and they are deserving of your and your sportsmen's club support
